Here's just a small sampling of the ways we get involved in our community.

OLIVE BRANCH ASSISTED LIVING

For over 40 years, in recognition of the many blessings we have, our parish has served a holiday meal to those in need.   Currently, we go to Olive Branch Assisted Living in Granada Hills.  The residents of this hotel are living on very little.  This is a very joyous occasion, and many families of the parish are very much involved.  We sing Christmas Carols which are enjoyed by everyone, and usually each resident receives a small gift.  Each year we have wonderful interaction with the residents, and there are many, many smiles.

food pantry

Our food pantry is another long-running program at St. Andrew & St. Charles. For more than 20 years, donations of food items have been received at the church and distributed through our food pantry to families and individuals who are in need.

Food items are donated by Parish members then our group of volunteers organizes the bags and distributes the bags to the folks who visit our kitchen. Bags of items are distributed weekly, on Thursday mornings between 9:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.

We pick up a variety of food from the Good Provider Food Bank of Southern California, twice per month.

Volunteers are still needed for:

  • DRIVERS on Tuesday mornings to get the food, either in your own vehicle or rent a van (costs will be reimbursed).

  • UNLOADING and organizing on Tuesday mornings, once the supplies get to the church (approximately 11:30am)

  • PACKING BAGS on Thursdays at 8:30am

While we are getting most food from the Food Bank, there are items still in great demand such as: Peanut Butter and Jelly please consider picking up the 15oz size of either and leave them in the baskets on Sunday or the kitchen anytime. Just note they are 'for Pantry'.

Your donations of food and money - and your time - are deeply appreciated by your Pantry workers - and by the entire Parish!

Blessings in a bag

We’ve all been in this situation – you’re stopped at a red light at a busy intersection or at a freeway offramp, and there’s that person holding a sign saying they need help.  Do you give them a smile? Money?  Are they really in need?  Will this light EVER change?  Now there is a solution !

Volunteers prepare 25-50 gallon-size bags per month, filled with non-perishable food items. You can pick up one (or more) bags on Sunday to keep in your car and hand out to that hungry person on the street.  Guaranteed to put a smile on their face – and on yours!
